On Thursday, USC star Joe McKnight was gunned down during a road rage incident in the New Orleans area.
“I told you don’t you f–k with me,” his alleged killer, 54-year-old Ronald Gasser, said just before shooting McKnight, according to a witness who spoke with The Times-Picayune.
According to police officials, the two had been arguing at an intersection at the time. McKnight was still sitting in his Audi, while Gasser had exited his vehicle to exchange words with the former Jets player. The argument escalated when Gasser took out a pistol and shot McKnight.
“Mr. Gasser did in fact shoot Mr. McKnight,” Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand during a press conference.
“Mr. McKnight did not have a gun in his possession,” he said. “Our officers arrived on the scene and immediately began administering CPR.”
Cell phone footage captured the moments surrounding the shooting at shocked witnesses gathered around the scene.
“This could’ve been any one of us,” a woman can be heard saying before adding, “That man just got out and shot that man!” and “That boy dead.”
Police officials said that they expect they will be filing charges against Gasser, though the charges have not yet been determined.
