Denzel Washington visits childhood librarian for her 99th birthday

Denzel Washington surprised his childhood librarian "Miss Connie" for her birthday by coming to visit her at the Atria Senior Living in Marietta, Georgia

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Fifty years ago, Denzel Washington would often visit the New York’s Mount Vernon Public Library, and “Miss Connie,” who was once the librarian there, remembers him fondly.

According to People magazine, Miss Connie has just turned 99, and Washington surprised her for her birthday by coming to visit her at the Atria Senior Living in Marietta, Georgia.

Washington had been contacted by Miss Connie’s family for the special occasion, according to a post by Reddit user metalgamer, whose grandmother is none other than Miss Connie.

“He ended up calling and talking to her on her birthday,” metalgamer wrote. “On the call, he said he would be in our city in December and would stop by and voila here he is!”

“He was so nice and caring. Laughing with her and holding her hand like he was old friends with her. He teared up a few times seeing the love and respect she showed for him. She knits a scarf a day and gave him three for him, his wife, and his mother. My mom and I were there with him and my grandma and it was such a cool experience. He kept saying with his publicist ‘this is what it’s all about.'”
