A Virginia nightclub is facing threatening phone calls and online harassment after choosing not to host an inauguration party for Trump supporters.

The party was to be called the DeploraBall, a play on the term deplorables that Hillary Clinton used to describe those fiercely loyal to Trump throughout his presidential campaign.

“You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right?” she said at the time. “The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic — you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up.”

The organizers of the event say that Clarendon Ballroom canceled the event after getting pressure from Hillary Clinton supporters, according to NBC.

Managers at the venue, however, say that is simply not the case. They claim there was never a contract signed between them and the organizers of the party. That apparently didn’t stop the organizers from selling over 500 tickets to the venue.

“We cannot cancel an event that was never booked. There was never an in-person meeting with organizers, never a hand shake and definitely not signed contracts or deposits,” Clarendon Ballroom said in a statement Thursday night.

The threatening calls were so frightening that the Clarendon Ballroom had to call the police. As it stands, Arlington County police are monitoring the situation, though they are aware of no specific credible threats.

According to the ballroom, they spoke to a man from Citizens for Trump wanting to throw the party. They claim they sent the man a proposal and spoke to him on the telephone, but no contract was signed.

Then on Monday, they learned from Twitter that over 500 tickets had already been sold for the DeploraBall. It was then that the for-profit group asked to see a contract.

“Clarendon Ballroom made the business decision not to issue that contract due to the suspicious actions of the organizers,” the company said in a statement.

Citizens for Trump have a different take on the matter. They claim that the ballroom only canceled the event when they saw it posted on social media.

“The minute they did that regarding our event, they got a slew of comments and negativity regarding us, and after that, almost immediately after that, the Clarendon Ballroom called and canceled our arrangement,” said organizer Jack Posobiec.

The Washington Post then tweeted on Monday night that the organizers of the DeploraBall were selling tickets. The next morning, Clarendon Ballroom answered the tweet stating that no event was scheduled for that day.

Organizers are sure that the event was only “canceled” because of left-wing pressure.

“They caved to left-wing harassment,” said Mike Cernovich, another of the party organizers.

The event was meant to involve guests that have contributed to the alt-right. This is a movement that combines racism, populism and white nationalism.

The ballroom has been inundated with threats since this story broke.

“I have literally spent my entire day blocking people and deleting hundreds of slanderous, dangerous, vulgar and threatening posts and tweets, answering threatening phone calls and watching my first ever Twitter War,” operations director Adrianne Freshman stated.

Last month, another business hosted the National Policy Institute at their restaurant before they knew they were a white nationalist group. At the event, the members praised Adolf Hitler.

The restaurant, Maggiano’s, released a statement after the dinner saying that they would donate all of the profits of the event, all $10,000 of it, to the Anti-Defamation League.
