ABC is looking to create a spin-off show for its hit series Black-ish, and the show would follow Yara Shahidi’s character, Zoey Johnson, as she goes to college.

It’s a coming-of-age story that, reportedly, showrunner Larry Wilmore and creator/executive producer Kenya Barris are working on together, though the spin-off talk is still early.

All we know so far is that if the spin-off does get the greenlight, it will be introduced with a backdoor pilot in the show itself before taking off to focus on Zoey’s journey into adulthood. Wilmore reportedly had an idea for a college comedy that was apparently meshed with the idea for a spin-off on the heels of the success of Black-ish.

It’s no surprise that ABC is looking to capitalize on the success of the show, since Black-ish snagged not only a Golden Globe for Tracee Ellis Ross but also several Emmy nominations. The show is going into its third season and riding high with its recent successes.

What do you think, Grio fam? Are you excited to see more coming out of the Black-ish world? Do you think the spin-off will be able to live up to its parent show?
