‘South Park’ won’t make fun of Trump because the joke came true

“South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone say that when their show returns for its next season, they will not be focusing on President Donald Trump, simply because they cannot keep up with reality.

“It’s really tricky now, because satire has kind of become reality. So it is really hard to make fun of, and we actually just had the last season of ‘South Park’ ended a month and a half ago. We were really trying to make fun of what was going on, but we couldn’t keep up,” Parker told Australia’s “7:30.”

“It was like what was actually happening was way funnier than anything we could come up with. So we just decided to back off and let them do their comedy and we’ll do ours.”

Trump was featured in Season 19 during an episode called “Where My Country Gone” in which immigration was discussed and a border wall proposed between the United States and Canada. A Season 20 episode called “Oh, Jeez” aired the day after the election and was reportedly rewritten with the correct winner, as it had apparently been written with the understanding that Hillary Clinton would be the next President of the United States.

But for the “South Park” creators, the humor has disappeared because the jokes came true.

“People say to us all the time you know like ‘oh, you guys are getting all this good material,’ like we’re happy about some of the stuff that’s happening,” Stone said. “But I don’t know if that’s true. It doesn’t feel that way.”
