On Sunday morning, both the Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Tribune reported that the violence-plagued city of Chicago had gone a full week without a fatal shooting.

However, on Sunday afternoon, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office reported on the homicide of 22-year-old Antoine D. Watkins, who was found lying face down in a vacant lot a block from where he lived. He was killed after being shot multiple times, and the shooting took place Saturday.

Prior to Watkin’s death, the last fatal shooting had been on Feb. 26, the Sunday previous to the shooting.
