Outrage over video of store owner choking African-American woman

Protesters gathered outside of a beauty supply store in North Carolina calling for a boycott of the store after the owner was caught on camera choking an African-American woman.
In the video, the owner, Sung Ho Lim, can be seen confronting the unidentified woman. Lim claims that she had stolen eyelashes from the store, and in the video, you can hear the woman telling Lim, “Check my bag. I don’t have anything.”
The two of them then shove each other, and Lim can be heard to say “You hit me” before he knocks the woman to the ground and puts her in a chokehold.
Since the video surfaced, protesters and community leaders have gathered at the beauty store calling for a protest, and Lim has now promised that he will turn over the video footage in full to the authorities.
“This is my fault,” Lim said. “I have to take the whole video and give it to the police.”
John C. Barnett, a civil rights activist, was one of many showing up to protest the store. “You cannot take police matters in your own hands. You can’t act like the police,” Barnett said. “Whatever the case may be, we know he cannot be keeping someone in a choke hold, stealing or not.”
Lim has said that he will apologize to the woman he choked on Monday.
