‘No one really knows what she does’: Ivanka Trump’s new role baffles White House staffers

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Recently, a White House source told NBC News “Ivanka Trump is all powerful,” but it seems like no one in the White House really knows what power she wields or how she wields it.

Sometimes, it seems that the president relies on Ivanka for high profile trips such as the ill-fated meeting with Angela Merkel. At others, it seems that Ivanka is completely removed from the process, such as when she and her family went skiing while President Donald Trump and the Republicans in the House of Representatives were desperately trying to pass their health care reform bill.

“No one really knows what she does exactly,” a West Wing insider told The Hill of the First Daughter’s role in the White House.

Another official said that Ivanka would focus on “these issues she’s been passionate about her entire life,” including “economic empowerment of women, workforce development, paid maternity leave and efforts to rid the world of human trafficking.”

Ivanka isn’t the only member of Trump’s family to have a vaguely-defined position in the administration. Her husband, Jared Kushner, was just recently appointed to oversee a new effort to bring business ideals and ideas into the government sphere, though it’s not clear how he would do that or what that would entail.
