On Tuesday, Dillard University announced that Janelle Monáe would be delivering the commencement address to its graduating students.

Dillard President Walter Kimbrough pursued Monae for the speaking engagement for over a year because he considered her to be “the ideal person to deliver a timely message to our graduates.”

According to the university, this will be Monae’s first commencement speech, so there is even more reason for students to be excited about this opportunity.

The commencement ceremony will take place on May 13, with more than 160 bachelor’s degrees expected to be awarded, according to a statement from the university.
