Retired Marine amputee runs Boston Marathon carrying the American flag
Marine Staff Sgt. Jose Luis Sanchez lost part of his left leg to a roadside bomb in Afghanistan six year ago.
But on Monday, Sanchez completed the Boston Marathon, wearing a “Semper Fi” t-shirt and carrying the American flag.
The Semper Fi Fund supports wounded veterans, and Sanchez told Runner’s World that he was running the marathon as a charity member for the fund.
“I want to recognize veterans and everyone who thinks they can’t do something,” he said.
Pictures of Sanchez running the marathon quickly went viral and were shared across social media as a story or perseverance and inspiration.
