Xscape is not happy about the new biopic being produced about them.
TV One announced last week that it would be producing Who Can I Run To: The Xscape Story. The project was reportedly inspired by the Unsung behind-the-scenes that Kandi Burruss-Tucker, Tameka “Tiny” Harris and LaTocha and Tamika Scott participated in back in 2015 and would cover both the group’s rise to fame and their infamous split and drama.
However, the group apparently didn’t get the memo and were shocked at the announcement that a biopic was coming out about them.
“We feel the recent announcement of an unauthorized biopic on our lives is disrespectful and disappointing,” the group said in a statement, as reported by the LA Times. “We are not, in any way, participating in that project and it will never ‘represent’ our true story.”
To that end, Xscape is getting together with Scott-Young’s Monami Entertainment and Love & Hip Hop producer and music executive Mona Scott-Young to create not only its own biopic but also to work on a possible docu-series.
The series will follow the group as the prepare for their return to the music scene for the first time since their 1998 split, and while multiple networks have expressed interest in the series, a final decision has not yet been made.
