On Saturday, Paris Jackson posted a picture of herself sunbathing in the nude to Snapchat.
When there was blowback and criticism for the nude photo, Jackson took to Instagram to say that “there’s other things to be mad at other than tanning y’all.”
She then posted a picture of herself topless and smoking a cigarette, writing that nudity started as a “movement for ‘going back to nature’” and “expressing freedom.”
“Being naked is part of what makes us human,” Jackson said. “For me it helps me feel more connected to Mama Gaia. It’s actually a beautiful thing and you don’t have to make it sexual the way many Hollywood stars (and the media) do.”
She concluded by saying that everyone has a right to their opinions and that people who disagreed with hers could simply choose not to follow her.
“If this makes some of you upset, I completely understand and I encourage you to maybe no longer follow me, but I cannot apologize for this in any way,” she said, adding, “It is who I am and I refuse to shy away and keep my beliefs a secret.”
