Teens arrested in murder of 6-year-old Mississippi boy

On Thursday, a 6-year-old boy was found dead of a gunshot to the head in the back of a car that had only hours before been stolen from his mother.

Ebony Archie had gone into a Kroger at 1:15 a.m. and left the car running with her son, Kingston Frazier, in the backseat. While she was gone for about ten or fifteen minutes, someone jumped into the car and drove off with it.

Authorities said during a news conference that they began filling out a missing car report before realizing that Kingston had also been taken, at which point they issued an Amber Alert at 4:15 a.m. However, at around 9:30 a.m., authorities found Kingston dead, with a gunshot wound to the back of his head. His body had been left in the backseat of the car, which was also left abandoned behind a warehouse several miles from the Kroger.

Dwan Wakefield, D’Allen Washington, and Byron McBride, all of whom were 17, were arrested and charged with capital murder. All three are being held without bail.

But the ordeal only continued for the family, who were apparently not notified until after police held a press conference.

In raw video captured of the press conference, the family can be seen arriving on the scene of the conference as police tell reporters about Kingston’s death and the investigation. Kingston’s parents’ grief was captured on live camera in the very moment that they were told, in the middle of a press conference, betraying a huge breach in protocol for the Jackson, Mississippi, authorities, as the next of kin should be notified first before any press action is taken.

“It’s hard to know that people out there are evil, that would kill a child,” Velma Eddington, the boy’s great-aunt, told The Clarion-Ledger after finding out the news. “That’s evil. That baby hadn’t done anything to him. That baby hadn’t done nothing. They could have left that child on that back seat, asleep. They didn’t have to kill him. Those people are evil. Evil.”
