After walking side by side Bill Cosby on the opening day of his sexual assault case, Keshia Knight Pulliam explained why she chose to support the embattled comedian, which she was quickly criticized for.

“At the end of the day it’s what you do,” Knight Pulliam told ABC News on Monday. “It was really important for me to show my support to Mr. Cosby. At the end of the day it’s the jury’s job to discern the truth.”

Knight Pulliam, 38, played Cosby’s youngest daughter, Rudy Huxtable on the iconic television sitcom The Cosby Show. The actress said that the entire ordeal, in which her former TV dad has been charged with felony aggravated indecent assault, as “heartbreaking” but said that she would accept the jury’s verdict.

Andrea Constand alleges that Cosby drugged and molested her while they were at his Pennsylvania home in 2014. Cosby said that he gave Benadryl to Constand, but maintains their sexual encounter was consensual.

He has pleaded not guilty.

On Monday, Cosby, 79, tweeted his gratitude to his former TV daughter, thanking her for standing by him.

“Thank you to Cliff and Claire’s 4 year old daughter (Rudy) and the Brilliant Spelman Alumnus #TheCosbyShow #KeshiaKnightPulliam,” the tweet read.
