State rep. apologizes after accidentally handing out screenshot of teen porn site

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

State Rep. Ramon Perez has apologized for handing a document to the House Finance Committee that included open tabs on his desktop related to porn.

The Providence Democrat had brought the printout with him to a committee meeting on Wednesday. He was there to testify about an automobile crash protection bill he had sponsored.

The printout was a screenshot of a Wikipedia entry for the Puerto Rico Automobile Accident Compensation Administration, the only problem? It was plain to see he had other tabs open and this porn had “teen” in the title.

On Friday, he apologized on Facebook explaining that someone else had sent him the image, it wasn’t one he had taken himself. He said he didn’t notice what those other tabs said before he handed out the documents.

“It was a mistake, and I recognize that,” he said, in an interview in Spanish. “My fault.”

He asked rhetorically at one point why he would have shared the screenshot if he had seen the words. He was not willing to share the name of who sent him the image.

“I won’t mention anything, because it’s my fault,” before adding that the person was just trying to help him.

House spokesman Larry Berman has confirmed that Perez handed the document over to the clerk of the Finance Committee who then made copies and distributed them to other committee members. As soon as the other open tabs were noticed they were quickly recollected.

Perez is a first-term representative who replaced former Rep. John Carnevale. You might remember Carnevale as the representative who was forced off the ballot last year when he failed to prove to canvassers that he actually lived in the district.
