After Jada Pinkett Smith slammed the new Tupac Shakur biopic, All Eyez On Me, describing its portrayal of her relationship with the late rapper as “deeply hurtful,” the actress who plays her in the film has responded.

In a recent interview, Kat Graham told E! News that she and producers reached out to Pinkett Smith before the film’s release, adding that Girls Trip star was nothing but supportive.

“When I first got the role, I reached out to [Jada] a year and a half ago… the point of reaching out to her, as well as the other producers on the film, was to ensure the integrity of the story and the character,” Graham said.

“Thank you for bringing so much heart and spirit to your roles,” Smith tweeted at the two stars. “You both did a beautiful job with what you were given. Thank you both.”
