Seahawks defensive end and brother win BET’s ‘Shine a Light Award’
Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett and his brother Martellus Bennett, tight end for the New England Patriots, were honored during Sunday night’s BET Awards with the “Shine a Light Award.”
The award, which recognized the Bennett brothers for the good they do off the field and which was presented to them by ESPN’s Cari Champion, was sponsored by My Black is Beautiful, which pledged to donate $10,000 on their behalf in recognition of their efforts to give back to the community.
Both of the Bennett brothers have spoken out about gender equality as well as the state of race relations in the country. Michael Bennett has, in fact, been writing a book for the last six months called “Things That Make White People Uncomfortable,” which is expected to be released by the end of the year. He has also said that he will be putting all of his 2017 endorsement money toward helping communities of color and empowering women of color in particular.
