A California security guard at a McDonald’s restaurant was viciously attacked by two reportedly homeless men after he asked them to stop sleeping at the tables.

Santa Monica police Lt. Saul Rodriguez told Fox 11 that the attack happened after the guard told the two men that they had to either buy something or leave the restaurant. This reportedly enraged the men, and their subsequent attack was captured on cell phone video by a customer.

In the video, the men can be seen going after the guard while someone in a gray suit tries to break up the fight. When the men briefly separate, the guard moves to spray one of his attackers in the face with mace, at which point the fight resumes again, with another customer trying to break up the fight by throwing a chair at the homeless men.

“At some point the security guard’s baton is taken and it’s used against him,” Rodriguez told Fox 11. “At that point people tried to intervene and assist the security guard.”

The fight spilled out onto the sidewalk and lasted for several minutes before it was broken up. Police arrested one of the attackers for assault with a deadly weapon.

The security guard had scratches and bruises on his face but refused medical treatment.
