Venus Williams is facing a wrongful death lawsuit for a fatal car crash that she was involved in last month, and her lawyers filed an emergency motion on Wednesday in order to prevent the inspection of either car that was involved in the crash.

The motion seeks to stop the inspection of Williams’ 2010 Toyota Sequoia SUV, as well as the 2016 Hyundai Accent that had been driven by Linda Barson, whose husband, Jerome, was killed in the crash.

According to E! Online, Williams’ lawyers are arguing that inspecting or downloading data from either car could mean that “critical evidence” is lost or destroyed. The legal documents insist that inspection be delayed until court officials give a “procedure for the proper collection of all data.”

“The on-board data of both vehicles will be critical evidence,” Williams’ lawyers wrote. “Issues have been known to arise when a vehicle’s data is downloaded. These issues included, but were not limited to, the unintended loss of the data. For that reason, no party should be allowed to inspect the vehicles until all Parties can be present with their experts and this Court issues a procedure for collecting the vehicles’ data.”

Williams is facing a wrongful death lawsuit after she was found to be at fault in the crash. Her car was reportedly jutting into the intersection when Barson T-boned it after crossing an intersection on a green light.
