Director, Allen Hughes, and music mega mogul Jimmy Iovine have teamed up for a new HBO documentary The Defiant Ones.

The four-part project chronicles the relationship between Iovine and fellow industry icon and artist Dr. Dre.

TheGrio‘s Van Crawford sat down with the pair recently in New York. In an excerpt from a longer interview, both Hughes and Iovine discuss the recent controversy over the Tupac biopic All Eyez On Me and reveal just how hard it is to capture such a legendary figure properly on camera.

“Don’t make a biopic about the greatest communicators ever known to mankind,” Hughes warned. “There’s no way you’re going to get it right.”

Check out the full interview above to hear what Hughes and Iovine had to say about All Eyez On Me and Tupac’s legacy.

The Defiant Ones continues to air on HBO with Part 2 tonight at 9 p.m.
