On Thursday morning, a 72-year-old man shot his 28-year-old wife in the head inside their home in the Bronx.

According to policeClarence White shot Dominique in the face, and she was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where she has remained in critical condition. Police officers responding to the scene took White into custody and recovered a handgun at the scene. He has since been charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal use of a firearm.

A neighbor who was walking his dog that morning said that he saw the couple arguing about 40 minutes before the shooting took place.

“It was a normal argument,” the unnamed neighbor said. “He went inside and she followed him.”

“That was the first time I saw something like that,” he added. “This neighborhood has always been calm.”

According to neighbors, the couple moved into the neighborhood around a year ago with their young daughter, and several neighbors expressed shock at the incident, because the couple had seemed to be loving and normal.

However, sources said that their marriage was becoming more strained lately and that the two were going through a divorce. Officials also said that there had been a documented history of domestic troubles.

White was still awaiting arraignment as of late Thursday.
