Plaintiff in STD lawsuit against Usher holds press conference

Quantasia Sharpton says the singer picked her out of crowd at a concert, and later met up with her at a hotel to have sex.

On Monday morning, one of the plaintiffs who filed a lawsuit against Usher for allegedly exposing her to an STD held a press conference with her attorney.

The woman, Quantasia Sharpton, read a prepared statement before media outlets alongside her lawyer Lisa Bloom, who is also representing another woman and man who say they too had sexual relations with the singer.

According to Sharpton and her attorney, Usher picked Sharpton out of a crowd during a concert a few years ago. Sharpton, who was wearing a birthday crown, was approached by security backstage to provide her contact information. Later that evening, she claims Usher called her from a blocked number. The pair allegedly later met up at her hotel room and had sex.

“When I first heard reports that he had herpes I couldn’t believe it…He never warned me about any STDS..it was just after my 19th birthday,” Sharpton said during the press conference.

Though she is negative, Sharpton says she is speaking out to get Usher to publicly reveal his status and to prevent him from possibly exposing someone else in the future.

“I was upset by the reports because I would have never consented if I had known. I would not have taken the risk of getting an incurable disease. My health is very important to me. Especially now that I’m a mother,” Sharpton added.

“I feel that my rights were violated. I’m speaking out on behalf of myself and others, some of whom are positive and embarrassed to speak out publicly. Usher, if you are negative please say so. If you are positive, you need to warn your sex partners so that they can make their own informed decisions.”

“By signing this lawsuit, we seek to ascertain the truth,” attorney Bloom said during a press conference Monday morning.

She added:

We hope the reports are not true. We hope that Mr. Raymond is negative. And that this can all be cleared up quickly. We hope that he has not knowingly endangered his sex partners. Fans who revered him and who were thrilled to receive his personal attention. In addition to the three plaintiffs in this lawsuit, several other individuals have contacted with the same concerns.

My Bloom Firm team is in the process of reviewing their facts, evidence and witnesses, as we do in any case and as we have done with the three plaintiffs who are suing today. So more people may be added in the days to come. No one in America, not even a popular celebrity is above the law. And everyone, even ordinary people who find themselves swept away by a superstar, have the legal right to be respected, which includes being warned about STDs, so that each person can make a decision about her own health and her own body.
