Dr. Oz shocks ‘Fox & Friends’ hosts during pro-marijuana speech

On Tuesday morning, Mehmet Oz, better known as Dr. Oz, shocked the hosts of “Fox & Friends” when he came to the defense of medical marijuana.

On the show, Oz refuted the long-held belief that marijuana would be a “gateway drug” leading people to become addicted to harder substances. In fact, he argued that the opposite was the case and that marijuana was a much better alternative to narcotics, especially considering the epidemic of narcotic addiction in the United States.

“The real story is the hypocrisy around medical marijuana,” the author and TV personality said. “People think it’s a gateway drug to narcotics. It may be the exit drug to get us out of the narcotic epidemic.”

He went on to express his frustration that the possibilities and uses for marijuana cannot be explored under current United States law, which classifies marijuana as a Schedule I drug, which is reserved for drugs with a high potential for abuse and no medical value.

“We’re not allowed to study it because it’s a Schedule I drug, and I personally believe it could help,” Oz said.

It was clear that the hosts of the Fox show were stunned by Oz’s position, and their surprise was best summed up by Steve Doocy, who could only say “wow” in response.
