After President Donald Trump threatened to “totally destroy” North Korea, the reclusive nation threatened to test a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean in response.
In a rare statement, North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, slammed Trump for the comments made in front of the United Nations on Tuesday in which he referred to Kim as “rocket man.”
“The mentally deranged behavior of the U.S. President openly expressing on the UN arena, the unethical will to ‘totally destroy’ a sovereign state … makes even those with normal thinking faculty think about discretion and composure,” he said.
While Trump has not announced any military action against North Korea, after four days of meetings at the United Nations, he signed an order hitting North Korea with the most intense sanctions the country has ever faced, targeting those doing business with North Korea.
“Our new executive order will cut off sources of revenue that fund North Korea’s efforts to develop the deadliest weapons known to humankind,” Trump told reporters at the U.N.
However, the sanctions package is not as severe as Trump had previously threatened, as he had stated before that he would target any foreign government doing business with North Korea.
