Activist Aleta Clark posted a photo of herself kneeling between two police officers in uniform with raised fists on Sunday, writing in the caption, “That Moment when you walk into the police station and ask the Men of Color are they Against Police Brutality and Racism & they say Yes… then you ask them if they support Colin Kapernick… and they also say yes… then you ask them to Kneel.!”
However, since the officers were in uniform for the picture, the Chicago Police Department is taking action and told the Chicago Tribune that the two officers would be reminded of department policy.
“We will address it in the same way we have handled previous incidents in which officers have made political statements while in uniform,” the spokesperson said.
The picture and the officers’ reprimand came out as the national anthem protests in the NFL have been at the forefront of national conversation. On Friday, during a rally in Alabama, Donald Trump also stirred up controversy by suggesting that anyone protesting by kneeling during the anthem should be fired by the NFL and that anyone protesting was a “son of a b***h.”
