James Packer recently opened up about his relationship with Mariah Carey, which famously went south after just 18 months together.

Packer said that, from the beginning, the relationship was a “mistake” and that it was simply the case that they met each other at the wrong time.

“I was at a low point in my personal life,” Packer told The Australian. “Documenting the negotiations with my sister was taking longer than expected.”

Although Packer had good things to say about Carey, he admitted that the relationship simply was not good for either of them.

“She was kind, exciting and fun,” he recalled. “Mariah is a woman of substance. She is very bright. But it was a mistake for her and a mistake for me.”

Their romance was plastered all over the news, especially after Packer proposed to Carey with a $10 million engagement ring in January 2106. The two of them broke up in October of that year, and Carey sued him for $50 million for causing her distress.

However, when asked if he had any regrets, Packer spoke out not about Carey but about ex-wife Erica Packer.

“It is my biggest regret that I let my marriage to Erica fail,” he said. “It is what it is and she is doing an incredible job with the kids and we are in a great place.”
