The name ‘Diddy’ is dead.

Sean Combs announced that he is changing his name to Brother Love.

The music mogul gifted himself a new name for his 48th birthday which he spent on a beach in Miami.

“I have some very serious news,” he said in a video posted to Twitter. “I’ve been praying on this and… I knew it was risky, ’cause it could come off as corny to some people, (but) I decided to change my name again.”

He went on to explain his reasoning and announced his new nickname.

“I’m just not who I am before. I’m something different. So my new name is Love a.k.a. Brother Love. I will not be answering to Puffy, Diddy, Puff Daddy, or any of my other monikers but Love or Brother Love,” he said.

Below, a brief history of his many monikers:

1997: Puff Daddy dropped his debit single and the indecisive ever-evolving star was born. Folks who were super down called him “Puff.” (Instagram)
2001: The first of many subsequent name changes wasn’t too drastic. Just swapped out a vowel and arrived at P. Diddy. (Getty)
2005: Doesn’t Diddy sound so much better without the “P?”… rolls right off the tongue. (Getty)
2014: The superstar had a change of heart and reverted back to Puff Daddy, a decision that worked well for his Bad Boy Reunion the following year. (Instagram)
2017: If you want to address this icon, you better call him Brother Love or “Love” for short. Whatever you say, Love. (Instagram)
