Usher’s $20 million herpes lawsuit dismissed

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

One of the lawsuits filed against Usher, in which it was alleged that he failed to warn the woman of his reported herpes has been dismissed.

Back in July, Laura Helm filed her lawsuit under the name Jane Doe. She said that she had unprotected sex with Usher and he gave her herpes. A wrinkle in her case popped up when she reportedly told someone in a recorded phone call just two days before filing the lawsuit, that the pair had only ever had protected sex.

Lisa West, Helm’s lawyer quit representing her and a new attorney was hired. Then, on Friday that new lawyer filed court documents to dismiss the case. It has now been dismissed without prejudice “with intent to refile.”

“It’s our sincere hope that this dismissal will bring an end to the opportunistic litigation against Usher in Georgia,” Usher’s attorney, Steve Sadow stated.

It’s been reported that in 2012 Usher settled a suit over similar accusations for $1.1 million.

In California, the law says that it is illegal to knowingly or recklessly transmit an STD to another person. Court papers show that the singer paid $2,754 of the victim’s medical bills in 2012.
