Christina Aguilera’s American Music Awards tribute to Whitney Houston was powerful and “fabulous” says Houston’s sister-in-law and former manager.

Pat Houston was at LAX when TMZ asked her how she felt about the negative reactions Aguilera received over her performance Sunday night. Some even argued that it was so bad that it made Pink cringe in her seat–something she has strongly denied.

Regardless of Pink’s true feelings, Pat says the tribute was “amazing” and the only opinions that should matter are Christina’s own and the Houston family’s.

When directly asked if she agreed with some critics who said the song was “butchered,” she said those people were wrong and that the performance was “fabulous.”

She went on to say that Christina “did her own version of each song” and that it was “lovely” and “heartfelt.”

Pat also said that “you can’t please everyone” but those that matter most are pleased with her performance.

As far as Pink’s reaction? Pat says that is the face people tend to make before they cry and Pink was “just feeling the [emotional] energy just like everybody else.”
