Prince Harry and actress Meghan Markle are engaged.

On Monday morning, Prince Charles announced the engagement, stating that Prince Harry had proposed to Markle earlier this month in London.

The American actress (who stars in “Suits”) will get married in what will reportedly be a “non-traditional” ceremony in the spring of next year, with the plans rumored to be quite different from the extravagant wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Prince Harry reportedly proposed after he had first obtained permission from Markle’s parents.

“We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry,” her parents Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland said in a statement through Kensington Palace. “Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents.”

“We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together,” they added.

The Queen has been informed of the wedding plans and has said with the Duke of Edinburgh that they are “delighted for the couple and wish them happiness.”

The two lovebirds met in July of 2016 through mutual friends, though they didn’t go public with their relationship until much later. They were photographed with each other for the first time more than a year after they met.

Prince Harry has had to defend Markle against nay-sayers who have pointed at everything from her parents’ status as divorcees and her mixed race to the fact that she attended a Catholic school, but through it all, the two of them have proven time and again that they are devoted to each other.

Congratulations to the soon-to-be newlyweds!
