Judge Genece Brinkley feels the pressure after accusations of sentencing overreach
The judge who sentenced Meek Mill to two to four years in prison for parole violations has been ordered to grant him a bail hearing and to get out of the way of his motions for appeal.
According to a habeus corpus petition on Monday, Court of Common Pleas Judge Genece Brinkley was keeping Mill from being able to move forward in his post-sentencing options, making it so that he couldn’t file an appeal.
The Superior Court stepped in, in response to an emergency bail request. While they did not release Mill, they did tell Brinkley to get a move on.
“The Court of Common Pleas is directed to enter a disposition of petitioner’s November 16, 2017, motion for bail without further delay,” the Superior Court said.
Mill’s rep, Jordan Siev, told TMZ of the ruling, “We’re pleased that the Superior Court took immediate action to direct the Court of Common Pleas to decide on the application for bail without further delay. We remain hopeful that Mr. Williams will be promptly released on bail.”
Judge Brinkley has been criticized in this case, with many activists claiming that the sentencing was too harsh. In particular, she has been accused of having a vendetta against Mill because Mill would not give her a shout-out in a song.
