Matt Lauer may be out the door at NBC, but not before he walks away with major cash.
Lawyers for Lauer are reportedly trying to net him $30 million.
Lauer, who was fired after sexual misconduct allegations were leveled against him, was awarded a contract worth $20 million a year in 2016 after reaching a new deal with NBC. The contract was set to go through 2018, meaning there is still over a year left on the contract.

However, many contracts have moral clauses that specify that employees can be terminated without pay if their actions reflect poorly on the company.
According to a source close to Lauer’s team, “They are currently looking at his contract and determining whether the claims against him, which clearly would affect any moral clause in his contract and his ensuing termination would cut off his contractual rights to be paid through to the end of his contract.”
However, Page Six also reported another TV insider as saying the payout is a long shot.
“There is no way Matt is getting paid. There has been an irrevocable breach of Matt’s contract, there is a moral clause that says if he brings the company into disrepute — which he clearly has — NBC can terminate his employment immediately without pay and they do not have to pay out his contract,” the insider said.
