A new report shows that a Trump aide may have lied to Congress about her level of knowledge of Michael Flynn’s involvement with Russia.

K.T. McFarland, President Trump’s former deputy national security adviser, said over the summer that she had no knowledge of meetings between Flynn and Sergey Kislyak, Moscow’s former ambassador to the U.S.

However, according to a report by the New York Times, McFarland mentioned in a Dec. 29 email that Flynn would be meeting with the Russian ambassador that evening. The topic of the email was the sanctions that had been imposed by the Obama administration against Russia because of their interference in the 2016 presidential election.

McFarland told Congress in May that she had no knowledge of the contact between Flynn and Kislyak while being asked questions in writing as part of a confirmation hearing on her nomination to the position of ambassador to Singapore.

“Did you ever discuss any of General Flynn’s contacts with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak directly with General Flynn?” asked Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee

“I am not aware of any of the issues or events as described above,” McFarland replied.

This kind of contradiction is not good for an already beleaguered White House, especially with the news that Flynn has made a plea deal in the Russia investigation.
