Kent State University is mourning the death of a student who passed away suddenly on Wednesday after reportedly collapsing while playing basketball.

Devin Moore, a journalism student in the College of Communication and Information, was a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and was named the 2017 4th District Omega Psi Phi Man of the Year.

“We mourn the passing of Brother Moore. He was a young man on a fast track to success. Please pray for the family, friends, the Kent State Community, and our members,” the fraternity tweeted in a statement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Devin Moore’s family and members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. as they grieve his tragic passing,” said Eric Mansfield, executive director of media relations at Kent State.

While the university did not give details about his passing, witnesses said that he had collapsed while playing basketball at the recreation center, according to KentWired.

On Thursday night, the university honored Moore with a gospel choir concert in an effort to provide students and staff the opportunity to come together to mourn.

Grief counselors were also made available at the university for anyone who needed them.
