‘It’s like hazing’: Tiffany Haddish opens up about sexual harassment in comedy

Her book details multiple instances with unnamed comedy club promotors and fellow comedians

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Tiffany Haddish is calling out the men in the comedy industry for sexual harassment.

In her memoir, The Last Black Unicorn, Haddish opened up about some of what she experienced in the industry, especially in her early days doing standup in Los Angeles.

In an excerpt provided to People, Haddish wrote, “I can’t tell you how many promoters tried to tell me that to get on stage, I had to get on my back.”

But she told them outright, “Hell no.”

— Roy Moore once suggested getting rid of the 14th Amendment, which gave former slaves rights —

“It seemed like everybody wanted to get in my panties. It was constant defending and battling. These men will try you every single time,” she told People. “It’s like hazing. Once they figure out you’re strong and you don’t roll like that, then they start treating you like a colleague.”

As the world is experiencing a cultural shift when it comes to stories like this, with more and more women coming out and sharing their experiences, we hope that Haddish and others like her will continue to share their bold testimonies and call out the men in the world who got away with this kind of behavior for far too long.
