South Carolina Senator Tim Scott got in a Twitter spat with a blogger who called him a token Black.

Andy Ostroy pointed out Scott’s positioning in the photo op announcing the passage of the new tax bill. Scott is the only Black lawmaker there, and that didn’t escape Ostroy’s notice.

“What a shocker… there’s ONE black person there and sure enough they have him standing right next to the mic like a manipulated prop. Way to go @SenatorTimScott,” Ostroy wrote on Twitter.

‘If you’d rather just see my skin color, pls feel free’

Scott fired back saying that Ostroy was the one making it about race. The senator noted that, contrary to Ostroy’s opinion, he actually worked on the tax plan for a while and had a major role in its passage.

“Uh probably because I helped write the bill for the past year, have multiple provisions included, got multiple Senators on board over the last week and have worked on tax reform my entire time in Congress. But if you’d rather just see my skin color, pls feel free,” Scott wrote.

But Ostroy fired back saying that Scott should focus not on Twitter wars but on stopping Donald Trump and his terrible policies.

“Instead of worrying about me, perhaps @SenatorTimScott should be more concerned with his party’s shafting today of minorities, the poor & middle class…and of his shameless ongoing support of his sexist, admitted-sexual-abusing racist Machurian president who’s in bed w/ #Putin,” he wrote.

The recent tax bill passed by the Republican-controlled Congress has been heavily criticized as bad for the middle class. Most people see it as a blatant gift to Republican donors: corporations and the wealthy. And yet the GOP passed it anyway, over massive public disapproval, prompting even further outcry from the American people who will be hurt by this plan.
