CNN guest Symone Sanders claps back at pundit for saying school shooter’s race wasn’t a factor in lax FBI followup
To be clear, Symone Sanders did not come to play with you.
During a CNN discussion about how the FBI reportedly did not follow protocol when following up on tips they received about Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz, conservative pundit Bill Kristol criticized Symone Sanders for bringing up race.
Oh, really?
Sanders lit into the FBI for its failure to follow up on the tips they received in regard to the 19-year-old gunman who massacred 17 teachers and students in Parkland, Florida last Wednesday.

The FBI was forced to release a statement after the shooting saying that it had been notified about Cruz’s “desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts.” A tipster had also warned the FBI of “the potential of him conducting a school shooting.”
“We have determined that these protocols were not followed for the information received,” the FBI said. “The information was not provided to the F.B.I. Miami field office, and no further investigation was conducted at that time.”
Symone Sanders said that the FBI might have kept shooter Nikolas Cruz from falling through the cracks if he had been Muslim.

“If he was yelling ‘Allah Akbar,’ they would’ve swooped in –,” she said before being interrupted by Kristol.
“That’s not true!” Kristol interjected.
Symone Sanders brought up Trump’s Muslim ban and Kristol said, “You don’t have to demagogue this. You know, you’re thinking about race.”
“Okay, to be clear, white supremacists have repeatedly slipped through the fingers of the FBI — repeatedly,” Sanders stated firmly. “This is a pattern … this young man trained with a white supremacist paramilitary in Florida. Had he been training, in my opinion, had he been with black or brown people training with a paramilitary in Florida, the FBI would have done something about it.”
