A North Carolina high school student was reportedly kicked off her school bus by administrators because of wearing what they called inappropriate clothing.
Adding insult to injury, the student was forced to wait alone for a ride home.
India Middleton, the mother of student Makhigha Davis, is troubled that the school failed to ensure that her daughter was safe and told Makhigha that she’d have to wait outside alone for a ride to pick her up because office staffers were leaving the premises, according to ABC11.
“She said, ‘You have to wait outside because I’m about to leave and the office is about to close,'” Makhigha Davis said. The student then called her mom to pick her up but she was unable to get there until two hours later.

Middleton said it was the assistant principal’s call to remove her daughter Makhigha Davis from the bus because she wore an off-the-shoulder shirt to school. But Middleton says her daughter went through the whole school day without one teacher taking issue with her outfit.
“I don’t send my children out here in provocative clothes to break any rules at school,” said Middleton. “I feel like that could have been handled a different way.”
Middleton took matters into her own hands and posted a video to social media showing that her daughter was indeed left outside of the Hoke County High School alone. In the video, Middleton grabs the school door handles and pulled them to prove the facility was locked.

The video has since gone viral.
“For you to have those doors locked, it’s unfair to children,” said Middleton.
Hoke County responded to WTVD news station in a statement.
“Hoke County Schools will not make excuses for the poor judgement demonstrated by the assistant principal. The best course of action would have been to allow the student to get on the bus Friday. All administrators understand that if a child is pulled from a bus then they are responsible for that child’s supervision until they are safely picked up by a parent.”
The question remains if that assistant principal will be reprimanded for his inaction to oversee Davis’ safety. Middleton doesn’t think much will happen and her daughter hasn’t returned to school since the incident.
“It seems like there is no consequence for the administrator. He gets to go about his regular day,” Middleton said.
