Trump ignores ‘Roseanne’ controversy at rally but attacks Jay-Z
When Donald Trump took the stage at a rally in Nashville on Tuesday evening, plenty of people expected him to comment on the controversy that erupted when ABC pulled the plug on Roseanne in response to racist comments its lead, Roseanne Barr made about Valerie Jarrett on social media.
He didn’t.
A more responsible, respectable, decent leader of the free world would likely have taken the opportunity to condemn such a visible act of hatred from a celebrity, especially one who spends more time commenting on pop culture than he does about anything that actually matters. But especially because he so proudly and publicly aligned himself with the show that caused controversy with its offensive humor and hatred-tinged storylines since its premiere. The president, whose press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders basically said the POTUS had better things to do than comment on the issue (“That’s not what the president’s looking at…We have a lot bigger thing going on in the country right now”) even though he didn’t hesitate to congratulate his outspoken supporter when her show premiered to record ratings in March, chose to stay silent amid the controversy.
Instead of taking a stand against Barr’s despicable comments about a highly-respected Obama adviser, he took aim at Jay-Z for using profanity while making appearances for Hillary Clinton while she was running for President two years ago.
“The only way she filled up the arena was to get Jay-Z…His language was so filthy it made me look like the most clean-cut human being on Earth… He’d stand up there before those crowds, and by the way, without any musical instruments, I had much bigger crowds than he was drawing,” Trump said.
“But he’d stand up before those crowds, and he’d use the f-word, and Hillary would sit back and say ‘I’m in trouble. Please don’t have him use that kind of language anymore.’ And then he’d finish and everyone would leave, and she’d be standing up making a speech to 400 people.”
What in all the hells is this man talking about? He decided now would be a good time to go after a highly-respected Black man for performing songs at a concert two years ago rather than address the disgusting comments made by one of his most outspoken and highly-visible supporters?
