Family mourns double murder of father and 4-year-old daughter ‘Tell my wife I love her’

A family is trying to come to grips after a senseless murder took the lives of a 29-year-old New Orleans man and the four-year-old daughter he held in his arms.

Cameron Mack was gunned down Tuesday May 29th outside of his apartment and sheriff’s deputies are still searching for the shooter who they say is a “threat to the entire community,” reports NOLA.com

Mack’s mother Angela Walker gathered with family members and recalled her son as a man who loved music, religion and his family. Walker grappling with the violent tragedy that has rocked her family and their community. Mack was married and a father of two girls: four-year-old Cali who was shot and killed in his arms and her little sister Chase.

Mack, along with his wife, Secret were gearing up to celebrate Cali’s 4th birthday after returning from a trip, Walker said. They took their luggage from the car and put it inside the apartment. They went back to the vehicle and headed out to go get a bite to eat.

When they returned, Mack’s wife and daughter Chase got out the car and made it up the stairs when gun fire rang out, hitting Mack and Cali multiple times.

A bystander rushed to Mack’s side and recalled him saying:

“Tell my daughters I love them. Tell them I love them. Tell my wife I love her. I’m going to die,” she said.

Walker said Mack’s daughters were his world.

“He had mad love for those kids. I ain’t never saw a man love his children like my son loved those girls,” she said. “I miss them already. I miss them already.”

Sheriff Mike Tregre said Mack the shooting is still under investigation and the motive is unknown.

“This does not appear to be a random act,” Tregre said. “I just hope and pray that God will lead us to the suspect.”
