Here is The Download for Wednesday, June 6th.

A woman in Michigan is speaking up after being racially profiled at Target. Ashanae Davis, 20, was accused of stealing a bikini and had to take the walk of shame to the backroom where she was was forced to strip in front of two male security guards (one who was black and the other white).

You would think both workers would be held accountable but according to NBC, the company only fired the Black security guard. Although Target has issued an apology, Davis is taking legal action to ensure this doesn’t happen to anyone else.

Starbucks will have a legendary leader in finance, Mellody Hobson, take over and serve as Vice Chairwoman. According to Black Enterprise, this will make her one of the very few African- Americans in history to occupy such a role at a Fortune 500 company. Chairman Howard Schultz will step down at the end of this month.

NASA Mathematician, Katherine Johnson, is being honored at her alma mater, West Virginia State University! She’ll be honored with a bronze statue and a scholarship to help those majoring in STEM and who are underrepresented.
