Millennial woman scholar lands dream job at Jordan Peeleā€™s Monkeypaw Productions

Kamil Oshundara will join the company as a specialist in academic and cultural research for story lines and character development.

Cultural activist Kamil Oshundara has landed the job of many peopleā€™s dreams.

She will join Jordan Peeleā€™s Monkeypaw Productions as a specialist in academic and cultural research for story lines and character development,Ā The Hollywood ReporterĀ writes.

Peele is the comedian and creator of the iconic horror film Get OutĀ that represented the angst of being a Black man in America and gave birth to many jokes about the ā€œsunken place,ā€ and producer of the upcomingĀ BlacKKKlansman. The goal of Oshundaraā€™s new role is to improve representation and portrayals of marginalized groups,Ā according to THR.

ā€œComing from an academic background, Kamilā€™s dedication to rigorous cultural research is tremendous, and her focus of creating artistic platforms for underrepresented voices is both inspiring and exactly the spirit in which Monkeypaw was founded on,ā€ Peele said in a statement published inĀ THR.

Oshundara is a Philadelphia native and queer community organizer who was raised in the Atlanta and now curates arts events in Los Angeles, according to THR. She has researched art for revolution by Black women and also has delved into black speculative arts, with a focus on black horror,Ā writes the news outlet.

Oshundara posted a copy of The Hollywood Reporter piece to her Twitter account, shouting in all caps, ā€œSO THANKFUL!ā€

Peele also retweeted the piece.

The reaction from the Twitterverse was one of mass approval.

Oshundara already has a number of Monkeypaw-connected assignments on deck.

Sheā€™ll represent Monkeypaw at Comic-Con on a panel about the political landscape of the movieĀ Black Panther,Ā and also will conduct interviews and host a roundtable discussion with Black punk women during the Afropunk Festival in Brooklyn.

According to her Twitter account, Oshundara lives in the Mid City neighborhood of New Orleans.
