If you’ve seen any King Kong movies, then you know there’s always a damsel in distress who needs to be saved. But can you imagine a woman warrior kicking butt on the scene instead of one that needs a man’s helping hand?
Well let’s hope that’s the trajectory of the storyline in the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong, where Black Panther star Danai Gurira is said to be in talks to take on a pivotal role. Yes, our Wakandan sister just might be fighting an oversized ape and a mutated dinosaur, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Details of Gurira’s character is kept under lock and key, but we can dream.
About the film:
“Legendary Entertainment’s Godzilla vs. Kong will be a crossover event putting together two of the most popular movie monsters of all time. It is being directed by Death Note filmmaker Adam Wingard. The film will follow Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017) and the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which is set to open May 31, 2019.”
Danai Gurira has gained popularity as the Wakandan general Okoye in February’s box-office hit Black Panther. She returned in that role in April’s Avengers: Infinity War. But Gurira isn’t new to the scene and plays Michonne on AMC’s Walking Dead.
Godzilla vs. Kong is due out May 22, 2020.
Nyong’o has reportedly had the rights to the critically acclaimed novel about two lovers ripped apart during a migration to the West from Nigeria for quite some time and originally planned to turn the novel into a movie.
Gurira, 40, is a Zimbabwean-American actress and playwright. She is best known for her breakout role as Michonne on AMC’s hit drama The Walking Dead. She made her film debut in 2007’s The Visitor, and later appeared in Ghost Town, My Soul to Take and Restless City. In 2012 Gurira landed a spot on third season of The Walking Dead as the character Michonne.
