True Crime: Teen father charged in death of 8-month-old baby

On Saturday, an 8-month-old baby was rushed to the hospital with life threatening injuries and now her 17-year-old father has been charged with her senseless death.

Jayden Straight turned himself in to police on Sunday and the teen father was charged with of first-degree murder and child endangerment in his daughter Raija Straight’s death, reports the Des Moines Register.

Raija died at Mercy Medical Center on Saturday with critical internal injuries. There was also severe, traumatic injuries to Raija’s head.

On Monday’s family and friends came together for a vigial holding signs with messages, including “Long live Raija” and “Justice for Raija.”

“Don’t let them forget her name,” Ri Bambino, Raija Straight’s mother, told reporters.

Tisha Wells, Bambino’s mother and Straight’s grandmother, said before the vigil that the family doing their best to stick together after the loss of her granddaughter, whom she called her “Little Ray.”

During the vigil, Rhonda Anderson, Raija’s great-grandmother, all called for action.

“If we don’t stand for nothing else, everybody, we got to stand for this,” Anderson said, as she urged people in attendance to do whatever it takes until “this baby’s justice is found.”
