PAYING IT FORWARD: Ludacris pays for Atlanta woman’s groceries at Whole Foods

She had no idea the Good Samaritan was a celebrity.

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

An unsuspecting woman who was going through a tough time got an unexpected surprise from Ludacris when he paid for her groceries at an Atlanta Whole Foods on Monday.

Therra Jaramillo recently lost her husband to brain cancer and had fallen on hard times, making it tough to afford food for her and her rescue animals.

“I was making rice and vegetables for me and the dogs,” she told USA Today.

A broken water heater and a delayed payment for work she had done left her with nothing in her checking account before a friend gave her a gift card to Whole Foods. When she got there and stocked up, she realized the card wouldn’t cover the cost.

The person in front of her in line must have noticed her stressing and told the cashier he would pay for her groceries.

“He turned to me and he said, ‘I said I got this.’ And I looked at him, and he said, ‘All of this, don’t put anything back.'”

The Good Samaritan introduced himself as “Chris” and Jaramillo didn’t recognize the superstar until the cashier filled her in.

“I kept looking at him, and thinking, this man is an angel,” she said. “And [the cashier] goes, ‘you know that’s a famous rapper, you know, that’s Ludacris.’ And I went, ‘What! What!’ and I screamed.”

She went home and shared her story with friends on Facebook and the post went viral.

“They see a light in a world that for a lot of people … has gone dark … He gave me a gift that is not perishable … Just like that, I thought how powerful kindness really is,” she said. “And how life-changing unexpected kindness is. Everybody can do something. Kindness is one of the most powerful currencies in the world, in that the more you spend it, the richer you get.”

Sweet.
