Chris Paul donates $2.5 million to Wake Forest basketball program

Chris Paul just gifted his alma mater in a big way.

The Houston Rockets guard donated $2.5 million to the Wake Forest basketball program, marking the largest gift the school has ever received from a former player.

According to ESPN, Wake Forest plans to use the funds to expand make improvements on the men’s and women’s locker rooms and will name the men’s facility after Paul and he shared the good news on Twitter.

“Giving back has always been important to us! It’s an honor to have the opportunity to give back to my @DemonDeacons family,” he posted.

The Winston-Salem native helped lead the Deamon Deacons to their first No. 1 ranking in 2004-05 before going pro.

Chris Paul isn’t the only NBA star who is giving back to his community. We could go on and on about the big moves LeBron James is making these days, including the school he recently opened in his hometown of Akron, Ohio.

The city sang his praises for opening the “I Promise” school for at-risk kids last week.

“Anyone that’s done what LeBron James has done for the past decade to 15 years for our children to prepare them to flourish in life has to be an intelligent person,” Akron Public Schools spokesman Mark Williamson said on Monday. “He’s a bright guy, end of story.”

The LeBron James Family Foundation and the Akron (Ohio) Public Schools teamed up to launch the new elementary school for under-resourced children in his hometown of Akron, Ohio.

The I Promise School is the culmination of nearly a decade of work by the foundation, with its focus on educating children from challenging backgrounds who need and desire additional educational support. The school will begin with two grades – third and fourth – with plans to expand in the coming years.
