A Southern California teacher was arrested on Friday after a fight with his 14-year-old student was caught on tape. Marston Riley, 64 is a teacher at Maywood Academy High School in Los Angeles, and he came to blows with a student who reportedly hurled racial slurs at him after being asked to leave class because he wasn’t wearing the proper uniform.
The boy refused to leave the classroom and reportedly threw a basketball at Riley before the fight ensued.
The two exchanged punches for a bit before students and a resource officer pulled them apart. The boy ended up on the ground with Riley continuing to throw punches at him. The student was reportedly taken to a local hospital and treated for moderate injuries.

Several students filmed the incident and claimed the student used profanity and racial slurs against the teacher.
“I think it was both of their faults, like the teacher and the student,” student Enrique Deharo told ABC. “I was scared for the kid, and partly for the teacher, too.”
Other students described the teen’s bad behavior.
“I felt, like, a little bothered, because you know, it’s kind of racist,” student Ivan Valencia said.
“We are extremely disturbed by the reports of the events that occurred at Maywood Academy High School,” the Los Angeles Unified School District said in a statement. “We take this matter very seriously and do not condone violence or intolerance of any kind. Los Angeles Unified is cooperating with law enforcement in investigating this incident. Crisis counselors and additional School Police patrols will be at the school on Monday to support our students and staff.”
The teacher, Marston Riley was arrested and charged with child abuse. He was released on Saturday after posting bond and is schedule for arraignment on November 30.
