Twitter drops Obama receipts after Trump cancels WWI memorial appearance because, ahem, rain

The no-show enraged veterans’ groups and world leaders—Nicholas Soames, a member of the British Parliament and grandson of Winston Churchill called Trump “pathetic” and “inadequate.”

During the 2016 campaign, Donald Trump famously claimed that Hillary Clinton didn’t have the “stamina” to be president and even led rumors that she was deathly ill.

On Saturday, as leaders from across the globe met in France to honor American soldiers who died during the first World War, Trump—upon hearing that there would be a light rain—cancelled his appearance. Other world leaders, however, paid their respects, including Canada’s Justin Trudeau, Germany’s Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron.

As many as 1,800 American soldiers killed in the battle of Belleau Wood and are buried in the French cemetery. The United States was represented by Chief of Staff John Kelly – a retired Marine –  who traveled to the cemetery 50 miles outside of Paris.

The no-show enraged veterans’ groups and world leaders—Nicholas Soames, a member of the British Parliament and grandson of Winston Churchill called Trump “pathetic” and “inadequate”—and led thousands to take to Twitter to remind Trump of what Barack Obama did on the numerous occasions that he encountered a few raindrops.

And Twitter users did not disappoint. Check the receipts below:

Many also took to Twitter to point out that other prior presidents, including Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush all braved the rain to make appearances at Veterans events. Some even noted that the 9/11 event that Trump and his supporters mocked Hillary Clinton for falling ill in 2016 occurred while it was raining.

Trump is still in France where he is expected to meet with Vladimir Putin on Monday. No word on whether rain will keep him from that.
