Ann Marie Washington, a mother of two, got off the subway train and was stabbed in the chest and punched in the mouth by a white man who called her a “black b—-,” and fled.

The man was described as 5-feet, 3-inches tall, and wearing grey and black sweatpants and a black hooded sweatshirt, the outlet reports.

Washington didn’t realize she had been stabbed until the next morning. She has since been hospitalized for a collapsed lung, and undergone surgery her family told NBC 4 New York.

Advocates were outraged at police and demanded that the violent attack be classified as a hate crime.

“If this was a white resident, a new gentrifier to this neighborhood, there would be swarms of cops here,” Imani Henry of Equality for Flatbush told NBC 4.

“But when it is a Black person who is attacked by a white racist, there isn’t anything.”

After outrage and backlash from advocates, the NYPD Hate Crimes Taskforce said they would examine it further.

Oakland Hate Crime

Earlier this year, an Oakland woman, Nia Wilson was stabbed fatally by a white man on a BART platform.

The family of Nia Wilson packed a courtroom to attend the arraignment of John Cowell in June.

Cowell was arrested as a suspect in Wilson’s murder and the attempted murder of her sister Letifah Wilson. He stands accused of stabbing both young women multiple times.

“I’m just so sad for my baby that’s all I know,” said Alicia Grayson, Nia Wilson’s mother in an interview with ABC7. “She was smart, energetic, loved doing her makeup, her makeup, her makeup, her makeup… that makeup got on my nerves. I’m going to miss that makeup.”

Cowell is a convicted felon with a lengthy criminal record. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
