Kendrick Lamar, the Pulitzer Prize-winning MC from Compton, has the Internet abuzz ever since he blacked out his social media profile pics.

The last time the “Alright” rapper did this was in March 2017, just before he unleashed the loose single “The Heart, Pt. 4.” In that song, he ended with this line: “”Y’all got til April the 7th to get y’all sh*t together,” and we all eagerly awaited April and the release of DAMN, which launched into the stratosphere.

Then last year, he was busy producing the Black Panther soundtrack, which featured artists from Top Dawg Entertainment on the compilation disc. Lamar also took part in the joint Championship Tour, but outside of this, he didn’t release any solo projects.

Now, fans are eagerly anticipating what the image blackout could mean and hoping that it signals some new rhymes from Lamar.

Although members of Kendrick’s Top Dog Entertainment have been mostly in denial mode about new work, fellow MC and frequent collaborator Schoolboy Q hinted that some surprise could be coming Wednesday. He also updated his profile pic in yellow.

Interpreting the combination of yellow and black, one smart fan put the colors together to note that one of Kendrick and Q’s first songs was called “Birds & The Beez,” which is creating even more frenzy with some believing this means the two are collaborating on a new album, but no one knows for sure and at this point it’s anyone’s guess.

Dozens of artists have changed their social media profile pics to black or another color.

Lamar could have changed his profile pic to celebrate whatever Schoolboy Q’s surprise is. Or to give a nod to Zacari’s brand new project with TDE called, Run Wild Run Free, which is due out on March 15. However, only Lamar and Schoolboy Q have the color theme. Other TDE members are running with Zacari’s album’s cover art as their profile pics.
